Well, it’s no secret that turkeys have been around for a while! In fact, they’ve been around since the time of the ancient Greeks and Romans. It’s believed that they were first domesticated in Mexico and Central America over 2,000 years ago. Since then, these birds have spread across the world and become a popular food source in many countries. Who knew something so delicious could have such an interesting history? Yum!

Wow! Around 2,500 to 2,000 BCE, settlers started showing up in Anatolia. One of these groups was the Hatti people who settled in what’s now Turkey. Pretty cool, huh?
Location: Turkey is located in the Middle East and Southeastern Europe, bordering eight countries including Greece, Bulgaria, Georgia, Armenia, Iran, Iraq and Syria.
Population: As of 2019, the population of Turkey was estimated to be 83 million people.
Language: Turkish is the official language of Turkey and is spoken by over 80% of the population. Other languages spoken in Turkey include Kurdish and Arabic.
Religion: The majority religion in Turkey is Islam with 99% of the population identifying as Muslim while 1% identify as Christian or Jewish.
Economy: The economy of Turkey has been growing steadily since 2002 with a GDP per capita estimated at $11,890 USD in 2019 making it one of the largest economies in Europe and Central Asia regionally speaking .
Culture: Turkish culture has been shaped by its geography and history which includes influences from both Eastern European cultures as well as Middle Eastern cultures such as Persian culture which have left their mark on Turkish art music literature cuisine architecture etc .
Turkey has been around for a while! It’s existed for centuries, so it’s no surprise that it’s become such a popular dish. From Thanksgiving to Christmas, turkey is always on the menu. Yum!
